THE COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE
Now that you are a private pilot with an instrument rating, several people want you to fly them places for business or pleasure, and they are willing to pay you for that time. But according to the F.A.A you cannot be paid for these flights unless among other requirements, you are a commercially rated pilot.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE
Must be 18 years of age.
Must hold a second class medical.
Must take commercial ground school and pass a written test with a score of 70% or better.
Must start your flying lessons
Must have high performance instructor sign-off.
Must have at least 250 hours of flight time.
- at least 100 hours in powered aircraft.
- at least 50 hours in airplanes.
- 10 hours flight instruction in an airplane having a retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller.
- 50 hours of flight instruction including.
- 10 hours instrument instruction with 5 hours in airplanes.
- 10 hours of instruction in preparation for the commercial pilot flight test.
- 100 hours pilot in command time with at least 50 hours in airplanes.
- 50 hours cross-country with one flight at least 250 nautical miles from original departure point.
- 5 hours nioght flight including at least 10 takeoffs and landings as sole manipulator of the controls.
After you have met these requirements, you are ready for your commercial checkride.
